Aid by Ali: Mental Health and Hair Loss Support

At Aid by Ali, we fill the gap between mental health and hair loss

We know that hair loss isn’t “just hair.” Whether you’re living with Alopecia Areata, Trichotillomania, Male/Female Pattern Baldness, or anything in between, the emotional weight can be overwhelming. The constant pressure to “fix” your appearance, the endless search for treatments or wigs, the exhaustion of hiding or explaining yourself — it takes a toll on your confidence and mental health.

That’s why we’re here — to provide hair loss–focused resources that nurture self-acceptance, confidence, and connection.

How We Started

Founded by Alison Mann, a licensed therapist specializing in body image, anxiety, and self-esteem, Aid by Ali was born from both lived experience and professional expertise. Alison has lived with Alopecia Areata since age 3 and has been completely bald since age 6, giving her a deeply personal understanding of what it means to navigate the world with visible difference. She noticed that there were barely any resources that existed to support people with the psychosocial impacts of hair loss.

Through Alison’s personal and professional journey, she learned that healing from hair loss goes far beyond finding the right wig or treatment — it’s about addressing the intersection of mental health and hair loss. It’s about learning to feel whole again, to live authentically, and to reclaim your confidence from the inside out.

Today, Aid by Ali provides a variety of resources to help you do just that.

What We Offer

At Aid by Ali, we believe healing happens through connection, understanding, and evidence-based care. Our services are designed to help you reclaim confidence, authenticity, and peace — no matter your stage of hair loss.

We offer:

  • 1:1 Hair Loss Coaching – personalized guidance for managing anxiety, identity, body image and any other roadblock hair loss is causing in your life.

  • Support Groups for Alopecia and Other Hair Loss Types – safe, inclusive spaces to connect and share experiences with peers.

  • Workshops on topics like dating with hair loss, coping with anxiety, and learning self-acceptance.

  • Therapeutic Journals – including one specifically for those navigating hair loss, The Hair Loss Diary, and two designed to support general mental health and personal growth.

For those located in New York, I also provide psychotherapy for individuals struggling with body image, anxiety, or anyone who has ever felt “different.”

Because hair loss is often visible — but many of its emotional impacts are not.

Why We Exist

Aid by Ali was founded to fill a gap in the world of hair loss mental health — to create a place where emotional healing, community, and evidence-based care coexist. This is a space for every person who has ever felt “different,” every person who has questioned their worth because of their appearance, and every person ready to reclaim their story.

We exist because hair loss is not just a physical change — it can deeply affect self-esteem, identity, and the way we move through the world. Too often, people experiencing alopecia areata, trichotillomania, or other forms of hair loss are told it’s “just hair” or that their feelings are overreactions. We know it’s not that simple. Hair loss impacts how you see yourself, how you connect with others, and how safe you feel being visible in the world.

Our mission is to change that narrative and to help people get the support they deserve.

If you’re ready to stop letting hair loss define your life and start building something more sustainable — a life filled with connection, confidence, and self-acceptance — we’re here to help you do just that.

Because your healing deserves more than surface-level care.
