Therapist with Alopecia Areata

Hello! My name is Alison and you might notice, I don’t have any hair. I was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata at age 3. Since age 6, I have been completely bald.

My experience with Alopecia largely inspired my career as a therapist because I noticed I could not find a professional who looked like me. There was also a lack of resources beyond therapy to support the Alopecia community with the emotional impacts of hair loss. My goal ever since has been to create a range of support resources to help those with hair loss receive well-rounded care.

I also provide psychotherapy services for those located in New York who are struggling with body image, anxiety or anyone who has ever felt different.

Hair loss is often visible, but many of its impacts are invisible. We help heal the unseen impacts of hair loss because everyone deserves a peaceful relationship with their body.

Our beliefs

ALL types of hair loss deserve support

The comparison game is one that I see happen often within the hair loss community and it does not serve anyone. Here we do not believe there is one type of hair loss that is “harder” or “easier” than another. I can firmly say, through working with people on the full spectrum of hair loss, each type has their own unique challenges and devastations. You do not need to be completely bald for hair loss to emotionally devastating.

Self-acceptance is often more more accessible than self-love

We believe everyone deserves to have a peaceful relationship with their whole body. Due to societal stigmas, beauty standards and more, many people do not feel “self-love” is accessible. The focus of our support methods is not positive affirmation or making you see the bright side of hair loss (unless, of course, you have found these useful for your unique journey), but rather rooted in self-compassion and neutrality practices that can promote a deep sense of acceptance and break the cycle of your inner critic.

Ali did a fantastic job both validating the realities of living with alopecia in a hair-obsessed world and urging me to consider a different reality for myself. She never made me feel over-dramatic, but always managed to get me to consider a different and better world for myself. I plan to remember that alopecia isn’t something I need to change or apologize for. It’s a part of me that I can love but it doesn’t have to be all of me. I can now live proudly in a society that doesn’t understand Alopecia

  • Ari

Prior to coaching with Alison I had self-esteem struggles and I noticed I gained more self love for myself as a result of our work. The most impactful part of my work with Alison was the exercises/activities that had me critically thinking about myself re-wiring thought patterns. Alison took me on a journey to help connect with my inner self. I discovered new things about myself and re-discovered parts of myself I locked away. I plan to carry the tools and guide I learned from her program with me and apply it as needed in my life.

  • Particpant of Alison's Workshop

My turning point was attending an alopecia confidence workshop by Alison where I learnt about windows of tolerance. It’s basically about taking small baby steps and then assessing stress levels after each step. With every step, I realized that nothing bad actually happened when I left my house bald. This helped reduce the anxiety and increased the tolerance allowing me to take the next step

  • Participant of Alison's Workshop

Over the past year, I’ve been seriously struggling with self-esteem. I did what I thought was best to “accept” it, but looking back I was muscling through without fully tending to the loss. During Alison’s webinar, it finally clicked: losing my hair was a life-altering event that I never truly made space to grieve or process. Alison’s words helped me make that connection in such a profound way. For the first time, I feel like a have a renewed sense of energy and a clear direction to move forward.
